I've done home or personal space cleansing a few times, twice for myself, once for someone else. All three times I did it a little different and used different materials to get the job done. This time I'm going to incorporate all of the styles I've learned. I figure, why not do it all? I think that since my mind is uncluttered I'm better able to focus my positive thoughts during this task and stay on topic. My mind tends to wander especially when I need to focus on something important. So, here's the most thorough written description I could find. I personally find it easier to stay focused if I do this stuff alone, but, this mentions having people with you to encourage positive thoughts. If you know people who are willing to be involved and your comfortable with it, than go for it! It also focuses on cleansing in new home . I think its good to cleanse when its a new space but, also after you've been there a while and people have come and go into the space, or at any point when you feel uncomfortable.
Before you begin, you'll need to purchase or make a smudge stick. They can be found on the internet or made using dry sage or dry leaves, or a combination of the two, made into a tightly wound thick stick that will burn slowly through your cleansing.
1.Clean the house. If this is a new home, leave your old cleaning supplies in the old house and start fresh.
2. Move the salt into the house. Salt brings good luck to the house and should always be the first item moved into your new home.
3. Now that the house is clean, it's time to cleanse. Light the smudge stick and begin at the front door. Move around the house in a clockwise motion holding the smudge in front of you.
4. When you reach a window circle the window counterclockwise asking that anyone or anything be barred from entering. Move the smudge over the window panes to make smoke "bars" across the window.
5. When you reach an outside door, ask that only those with good intentions be allowed to enter and that any negativity is left outside. Don't bar the door, but circle it counterclockwise with the smudge.
6. Throw a pinch of salt into dark corners or into rooms that you feel need more attention. Salt will help to remove negative energy.
7. When you enter a room, travel around the perimeter making sure the smoke enters each corner. It's a nice touch to ask your guests for their best wishes specifically for that room. For example, while smudging a kitchen you might ask that you wish this room to be a warm, inviting place for friends and family members to share good meals and company, and then invite your guests for their own blessings or wishes for the room.
8. If you have an attic or storage space, bar the entrance as you did to the windows, asking that no one be allowed to enter.
9. End your house cleansing at the front door where you started. Announce that the cleansing is complete and thank your guests for their participation.
10. It's customary to conclude a house blessing with a great feast, so bring out the food and drink and let love and laughter enter your new home.
Finally, circle the property clockwise walking with Cinnamon (I use just a shaker of it from the grocery store). As you drop the Cinnamon on the ground, ask it to protect negative forces from entering but, to allow them to leave. Repeat this clockwise just around the perimeter of the house as well. Repeat your requests every few steps, add extra outside the windows and entrances to the home. Lastly, sprinkle salt inside the home in doorways and windows. At each opening, ask the salt to encourage positive energy into your life and home.
In my opinion, a variation to this is okay as long as your intentions are to invite more positive energy into your life and for your home to be free from negativity. I have planned to spend more time cleansing my office, which has been used as a guest bedroom, and my bedroom. Because I feel most uncomfortable in those places. I will be asking for any residue from past presence to leave and allow me comfort there.
No one really knows if this stuff works. All I know, is that placebo affect or real energy cleansing.... I always feel better after I do this. I am currently cleaning my house and drying sage to make my smudge stick. So, I'll be back with the result!
